Advanced Scrub Practitioner Course Bursary

Aimed at Theatre Nurses & Operating Department Practitioners

SPONSORING COMPANIES

Apply for bursary

Professional Education in Practice recognises that funding for both academic courses and study days is becoming more difficult for the individual practitioner and for hospital departments.

However the introduction and development of the Advanced Scrub Practitioner role is vital in both the NHS and the Independent Sector of Healthcare particularly with the reduction of numbers of junior doctors and with the restructuring of the their training.

The absence of medically qualified assistants during surgery has been encountered by many surgical departments and consultant surgeons regularly report difficulties experienced in finding assistants or valuable time is lost in surgery with delays waiting for junior doctors to arrive in theatre.

PEP’s aim is to approach a number of industry partners that are connected to the valuable work that Advanced Scrub Practitioners do, with the purpose of gaining financial support for the future development of this very important professional group.

Practitioners wishing to undertake Advanced scrub practitioner training, will be eligible to apply for the Industry Funded Bursary to assist in financing this valuable education and training if they can demonstrate that they have had to pay for the course themselves and have had no financial support from their hospital or consultants.

Each student would be eligible to apply for a maximum of £500.00 sponsorship per course. Each student will be assessed individually by the PEP Educational team for a Bursary Award.

Application Process:

Each student will be required to:
I. Apply for Advanced scrub Practitioner Course (ASP Part 1, course A or ASP Part 2 course B or D, or the combined ASP, Course C).
II. Complete payment for the course gaining a receipt for the course fees.
III. Complete the Bursary application form with declaration of self funding and provide evidence of self funding (copy of course fee receipt). The application process will request details about why the applicant has applied for the ASP programme and what support they will be provided with locally.
IV. Each student will be assessed on their application process to ensure they meet the application requirements.
V. Any award will be informed in writing.

It is important for PEP that the accountably of the bursary application process is transparent. Each student therefore much agree to be contacted by one of the bursary companies if awarded a bursary to confirm they have been awarded a bursary and the purpose of the award. To ensure the PEP Bursary application process remains transparent and accountable.
