Overview of the course:
This is an essential study day for healthcare practitioners involved in Bariatric Surgery. The day is
focused on UK developments in the surgical management of obesity and the increasing demand for
surgical intervention. Identifying issues relating to the increase in co-morbidities nationally and the
increased cost of managing the client group. Taking into account psychosocial, motivation, support
networks, life long follow-up, data collection/audit and research.
Some of the topics to be covered will include:
- NICE guidelines for Bariatric surgery explained
- The multi-disciplinary team – who is involved & why
- Patient journey – Pre-op to discharge meeting the 18-week challenge
- The risks & benefits of surgery
- Applied anatomy & physiology
- Surgical options – Gastric Bypass/ Banding/Switch/Balloon
- Surgery in-action – band & bypass
- The importance of the patient’s diet, changes, habits & supplements
- Motivation & support Networks for Bariatric Patients
- Psychological issues & physical issues
- Plastic surgery, living with one’s body image & relationships
There are only 30 places available on each course and these places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
The course fee is £145.00
The course fee will include the study day, course materials, certificate of attendance, refreshments and lunch.
