An Introduction to the On-line Competency Based LASER Safety & Training Course

Overview of the course:

This 12 week on line competency based LASER Safety and Training Course aims to support staff to develop a portfolio of evidence in safe LASER practice. This theoretical and practically led course is offered at various levels targeting all personnel working with or around medical LASERs. Topics to be discussed include LASER safety, protection, hazards, roles and responsibilities and much more.. Following submission of a portfolio of evidence developed during the 12 week course, successful candidates will be provided with written feedback and a certificate of competence.

 

Each student will receive a course handbook two week prior to the start of the course and access to a dedicated secure webpage containing the various course documentation, supporting information and work modules from day one of the course.

The aim of the on-line competency based course is to:

• Provide theoretical support to the competency-based training undertaken in the practitioners own workplace.
  
• Provide a structured approach to the development of knowledge and skills that will enable practitioners to practice safety and effectively in the presence of surgical LASER’s.
  
• Enable critical examination of the delivery of evidence-based care for LASER patient’s
  
• Promote the development of a critical understanding of the professional, ethical and legal implications when practicing and using a Medical LASER.
